Apple, Uncle Bob's Self Storage & dribbble
WOW WHAT A RIDE, and all this in about 2 - 3 weeks !!! What is a man to say other than being completely overwhelmed. I will try to follow a time line here.
In the middle of July 2010 I applied for a position as WebDesigner/Developer at Uncle Bob's Self Storage, owned by Sovran Acquisitions, a stock traded company. Being a freelancer for all these years, dealing with everything from running a business, taking care of clients, keeping up with technology has taught me a lot and usually came in with a work schedule of 14-18 hour days, 7 days a week. I think I will be a great asset to the company, and I hope they will be happy with my performance. I accepted the position and am loving it. The work hours are cut in almost half, compared to my full time freelancing existence, virtually reduced almost all the stress and pressure that comes along dealing with tight deadlines and running your own business. I will still be a freelancer but am in the fortunate position that I can now pick and choose my work. Sounds like a great trade off to me!
What do you know, right after I accepted the job at Uncle Bob's, a recruiter from Apple contacted me and offered a view job opportunities to me. I am sure you can imagine what I felt as I learned this was a legit Apple email. Apple right now, and I don't think this will change anytime soon, is the pinnacle of every graphic designer dream. I felt like I have to wear a set of permanent diapers thats how nervous I felt and honored at the same time.
I think I have to elaborate a little bit more about my personality. I am extremely loyal and trustworthy and I just do not let down the people that put their trust in me. I have signed with Uncle Bob's Self Storage and I just can't let them down, my brain doesn't work like that. I kept the door open with Apple though but had to decline respectfully at this point of time. A successful hire would have involved a move to Apple in San Francisco but with that I would have no problem with, considering I moved to New York from Germany!
Last but not least the dribbble network. To be part of dribbble you have to be invited, you have to have what it takes to be considered top of the line graphic design talent. Somebody that has an ever evolving vision and passion for the graphic design industry. Mike Rhode sent me an invite to the dribbble network and holly cow what can I say. THANKS!
Looking at my life this kind of timeline and positive changes IS UNHEARD OF!!! Let me give you a quick summary in on sentence: What can go wrong will go wrong and if something good happens it backfires to the power of x into the opposite. So what does all the above mean? Either my life is about to change or I am going to die tomorrow ^^!
